Pham Quang Nghi re-elected as Hanoi’s Party Secretary

VietNamNet Bridge – The Hanoi Party Congress on October 27 elected Pham Quang Nghi as the Party Secretary and Hanoi Chair Nguyen The Thao as Vice Party Secretary.

The three other Vice Party Secretaries including Nguyen Cong Soai, Tuong Phi Chien and Ngo Thi Doan Thanh.

The Congress also elected 75 members of the Hanoi Party Committee, which includes four Vice Chairs of the Hanoi People’s Committee: Nguyen Van Khoi, Vu Hong Khanh, Nguyen Huy Tuong and Ngo Thi Thanh Hang.

Before the election for the Hanoi Party Committee, Vice Party Secretary Tuong Phi Chien said that the congress would not vote for officials who were involved in the cases of corruption, who are conservative and don’t have a firm stand in politics and who don’t have an open mind.

Hanoi’s Party Secretary Pham Quang Nghi was born in 1949 in Thanh Hoa province. He got a bachelor’s degree in history from the Hanoi University and a doctor of philosophy degree from the former USSR Academy of Social Sciences.

He assumed many positions before being elected as the Hanoi Party Chief: Vice chief of the Central Committee for Ideology and Culture, Party Secretary of Ha Nam Province, Minister of Culture and Information and others.

He was elected as a member of the Politburo at the 10^th National Party Congress. On July 28 2006, the Politburo assigned Nghi as Hanoi Party Chief.
