Chinese coach wants to stay with women’s team

The Vietnam Football Federation is awaiting feedback from higher authorities on whether or not the contract of Chinese coach Chen Yun Fat with the national women’s football team should be extended, while the coach himself has expressed his will to stay with the team.

Fat, who led the team to victory at the 2012 AFF Women’s Championships on Saturday, is on a contract that will expire at the end of this month.

The VFF said it has asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the General Department of Sports and Physical Training for their opinions.

“We need their guidance before negotiating the extension of coach Fat’s contract,” said VFF general secretary Ngo Le Bang.

The women’s football squad, where the coach earns monthly a salary of US$3,000, has disassembled after the AFF championships, and will only gather again next year to prepare for the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar, as there are no international tournaments to be held from now to the year-end.

The coach said he also wants to stick with the team in the future.

“I’m happy to achieve successes with the Vietnamese women’s team over the last few years. I hope to be able to continue that work,” he told reporters.
