Fourteen talented Year 11 students received high praise from , Deputy Head, Deputy Director of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City for their successful completion of the Head Start Program - an English language leadership program run by RMIT International University Vietnam over the last two weeks.
The participants, who are currently on summer break before beginning Year 12 at one of 10 high schools in HCMC, received scholarships from RMIT to participate in the program based on their outstanding academic achievements, strong leadership aptitude and English language skills.
Mr Tuyet praised the students as Vietnam’s future leaders and emphasised the importance of English language skills in the country’s development.
“To be successful, today's youth are expected not only to be exceptional Vietnamese citizens, but also widely connected, highly flexible global citizens,” he said in his congratulatory speech at the graduation ceremony.
“Language skills, and particularly English skills, are the passport to accessing this changing world. I commend RMIT for their ongoing support of tomorrow’s leaders.”
The graduates of the program reported many benefits from having taken the time out of their school break to be involved in the language and leadership opportunity.
“Spending two weeks with RMIT’s Head Start program provided me with so many valuable experiences,” said Doan Thi Minh Trang, a student of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
“Not only did I have the chance to sharpen my leadership and language skills with dedicated teachers, but I also got to meet many wonderful and kind-hearted friends. I hope there will be more opportunities like this given to students in Ho Chi Minh City and also around Vietnam.”
Head of RMIT Vietnam’s Centre of Communication and Design, Associate Professor Andrew Scown, paid tribute to MOET and its continuous support of RMIT’s education programs.
“Through programs like this, we look forward to further enhancing our partnership with Vietnam’s high schools for better development of education in the country,” he said.
“It has been a delight for us to play host to these talented students. I hope the program has given them a ‘head start’ in their future study and beyond.”
