Top employers meet students at annual career even

Around 40 major employers, from professional bodies to NGOs and private enterprises, took part in the annual Career Expo held today at RMIT International University Vietnam’s Saigon South campus.

The highlight of the University’s ‘Career Week’, the expo was attended by around 1700 students who visited exhibition booths and talked to a wide range of organisations for first-hand advice on career planning and possible job opportunities.

Now in its sixth year, the event was presented in collaboration with major sponsors Bayer, ACCA, TRG International, CPA Australia and United Pharma.

With the theme ‘Shape your own path to success’, Career Week 2012 aimed to provide students with essential career development tools to navigate the best pathway for their career journey.

Students also had the chance to attend interactive panel discussions and information sharing sessions with alumni, staff, parents and industry professionals, enabling them to gain valuable insights into the professional world in order to make a successful transition to employment after graduation.

Other activities included career development workshops to help students build self-awareness, determine their interests, strengths, personality and values, and learn how these can help them to achieve career success.

“We are very pleased to see a lot of connections being made between students and employers from different industries at today’s Career Expo,” Professor Merilyn Liddell, President of RMIT Vietnam, said today.

“This event, together with other Career Week activities, showcases our commitment to offering work-relevant learning pathways to students, and ensuring they are fully equipped with the skills and connections needed to begin their careers after graduation.

“The success of many alumni holding senior positions in both local and multinational companies really reinforces effectiveness and value of RMIT’s educational philosophy,” Professor Liddell added.

Hoang Hai Quynh, an RMIT student studying a Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance), said she received some very practical advice on career options at the Expo.

“Though not yet a senior student, I found the Career Expo really helpful as I had a chance to meet many industry people at one time.

“I’ve also got a clearer picture of what the working world is really like, so I just can’t wait to start making plans for my future career,” Quynh said.
