Russian lawmakers to discuss energy

HA NOI — Viet Nam and Russia need to implement practical measures and create more favourable conditions for ministries, agencies and businesses to boost exchanges and co-operation, National Assembly vice chairman Nguyen Duc Kien said here yesterday while receiving a Russian legislative delegation.
Kien said he was delighted at positive developments in bilateral relations, stressing that the two nations had elevated their ties to the level of strategic partnership and comprehensive co-operation.
He urged the two legislative bodies to maintain regular exchanges of delegations to share information and experience.
The first vice chairman of the Russian Duma's Energy Committee, Leonid Y. Simanovskiy – the head of the Russian delegation – shared his host's view, saying the two legislative bodies need to establish mutual assistance in lawmaking and oversight.
The Russian lawmakers also held talks yesterday with members of the National Assembly Committee for Science, Technology and Environment. During their visit, which runs through Saturday, they were also scheduled to work with leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The delegation will also visit HCM City and hold working sessions with several energy groups and corporations. — VNS
